Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal game guide From Gym Leader "Janine" to Route 21

Fuchsia Gym +1

At the back of the gym, Gym Leader Janine is waiting.

She specializes in Poison-type Pokémon.

Utilize Steel-type Pokémon for battle, as they are effective against her.

VS. Janine

Janine's Team:

★ Ariados Lv. 33

★ Crobat Lv. 36

★ Weezing Lv. 36

★ Weezing Lv. 36

★ Venomoth Lv. 39

Strategy for battling Janine:

Unlike in previous games, there are no Koffing or Weezing, so the difficulty is decreased.

Janine still poses a challenge with her st rategy of using Toxic to inflict damage each turn.

To counter this, focus on reducing her Pokémon's HP with Poison-type or Steel-type moves.

Route 15:

After defeating Janine, you can head to Route 15 from the gate to the east of the city.

On your way to La vender Town, you can obtain a Super Rod from a house on Route 11.

Try to catch a Chinchou using the Super Rod.

In Vermilion City, you can use the Super Rod to catch Chinchou.

Occasionally, you may also catch a Lanturn, but since it only has a weakness to Grass-type moves and loses its effectiveness against Electric-type moves,

Chinchou is a valuable Pokémon to ha ve.

La vender Town +1

Heading north on Route 12 will lead you to La vender Town.

You can obtain the Expansion Card for the Poké Flute at the Radio Tower.

Once you ha ve it, try to catch Snorlax.

Reasons to obtain Snorlax:

The Snorlax near the Diglett's Ca ve entrance is at level 50,

and its only weakness is Fighting-type moves, which adds to Snorlax's st rength.

Once caught, Snorlax will prove to be a powerful Pokémon that can battle effectively throughout the endgame.

Make sure to catch it without fail.

Recommended moves for Snorlax:

★ Rest

★ Snore

★ Hyper Beam or Body Slam

★ Mud-Slap or Shadow Ball

Route 11:

After obtaining Snorlax, proceed through Diglett's Ca ve to reach Pewter City.

Head north from Route 2 to arrive at Pewter City.

Pewter City +1

Near the Friendly Shop, you can receive a Wing from an NPC.

Gold Version: Silver Wing

Silver Version: Rainbow Wing

Crystal Version: Silver Wing is received after entering the Hall of Fame.

Crystal Version: After obtaining Entei, Suicune, and Raikou after entering the Hall of Fame, you will receive a Wing.

※ This condition applies only to Ho-Oh.

After receiving the Wing and obtaining the legendary Pokémon,

try challenging the Gym Leader to a battle.

Pewter City Gym:

Similar to in Pokémon Red and Green, the Gym Leader specializes in Rock-type Pokémon.

Compared to the previous game, the party's attack power has significantly increased, but the accuracy is somewhat unstable.

Most Pokémon can be defeated in one hit with "Surf."

VS. Brock

Brock's Team:

★ Rhyhorn Lv. 41

★ Gra veler Lv. 41

★ Omastar Lv. 42

★ Kabutops Lv. 42

★ Onix Lv. 44

Strategy for battling Brock:

With the party's increased attack power,

"Grass-type" Pokémon are four times weak due to type matchups.

This is the perfect opportunity for Meganium to shine and level up consistently.

Boosting Meganium's level here will reduce the difficulty of later battles.

Route 2:

After defeating the Gym Leader,

heading south from here will lead you to Viridian Forest.

Exiting Viridian Forest will take you to Viridian City,

so let's increase the number of places you can fly to with Fly.

Viridian City +1

The main objective is to head towards the Sevii Islands.

Making purchases at the Friendly Shop will make your future adventures easier.

Also, let's pick up TM42 from an NPC while we're at it.

Route 1:

Heading south on Route 1 will take you to Pallet Town.

Pallet Town +1

Use "Surf" at the water's edge near the Pokémon Research Lab,

and head further south towards the Cinnabar Island.

Route 21:

"Grass-type" and "Electric-type" Pokémon are easy to train here,

providing an opportunity to raise Pokémon like Jolteon, Raikou, and Magneton.

Electric-type Pokémon are adept at learning status-changing moves,

which will be useful later in the game.

Continued to Cinnabar Island.
